EasyMove Founder Is No Stranger To Moving: Founder’s Spotlight with Emin Aliyev

EasyMove

Emin Aliyev was born and raised in Azerbaijan, a country nestled in the southern Caucasus Region of Eurasia (the geographical area between Europe and Asia). Emin received his undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics and Economic Cybernetic from Baku State University and earned his Master’s in Computer Science from The University of Michigan. Upon graduation, Emin started his career in the IT field. After a few years in the IT industry, Emin decided to start his own logistics company in Chicago called Easy Move.

Abdullah: What is EasyMove?

Emin: EasyMove is an Uber-like application that connects local truck owners with people and businesses that needs moving and delivery help at an affordable flat cost.

Abdullah: How did you hear about Start Co. and the SparkGap Accelerator Program?

Emin: I applied through f6s after I saw that Start Co. specializes in logistics and they can support my company with their expertise in the field.

Abdullah: In terms of progress, where is EasyMove now and what is the goal for next year?

Emin: We had more than 250 delivery requests since we launched in Chicago, and that includes furniture delivery, appliances, and so on. This year, we are developing our growth hacking strategy. We saw out of the 150 applicants that want to be movers; only 10% of them are using the iPhone. We are developing our Android app. and we will launch it soon. Also, We are launching in Memphis by the end of this month.

Abdullah: What do you think of the startup community here in Memphis so far?

Emin: I love it! Before I started SparkGap, I had different accelerator experiences but I was not satisfied due to a lack of expertise in the logistics field. After getting accepted at Start Co., we were super excited and skeptical at the same time because I did not know much about Memphis. But once I got here, I was super surprised that the startup community was super alive. Also, I was thrilled to know that the city of Memphis also supports the startup community.

Abdullah: What has surprised you the most about being here this summer?

Emin: First, was the city being interested in the startup community, you do not see that a lot. Also, I was surprised by the effort Start Co.’s staff puts into making sure we are on the right track by providing excellent resources and connections.

Abdullah: Since we are talking about Memphis, what is the one thing someone who has never been to Memphis should know about the city?

Emin: I enjoyed the view and restaurant at the top of the Pyramid. It has always been a dream of mine to see the Mississippi River. And, I was so surprised to find out that the Pyramid is a sporting goods store!

Abdullah: Is there an entrepreneur that influenced you? Do you have any advice for young entrepreneurs?

Emin: My grandpa. In my childhood, he used to tell me to be responsible for the family and take care of them. After being at the peak of my career, I wanted to add some drama to my life, so I moved to the US as a challenge to myself. To young entrepreneurs, I would say: If you ever come up with an idea or a solution to a problem, do not worry about money. Work hard on your ideas, and money will come along.

Abdullah: We are only a month away from Demo Day. If you can picture yourself on the day after Demo Day, when the accelerator has ended, where are you and what are you doing?

Emin: Right after Demo Day I will be back at my desk working to achieve my goals for this year and close the deal with investors. My goal is to launch EasyMove in big cities like New York, Los Angelo’s, and Miami. I want everyone to know EasyMove as the best moving company in the United States.
